History of Sports University of Nigeria

The Sports University of Nigeria was established by the Prince Ned Nwoko Foundation to train athletes, coaches, sports managers and other professionals. The focus is to equip professional sportsmen and women with adequate training to excel in sports and earn additional qualifications that shall enable them to face the challenges of life and contribute positively to national development. Beyond the individual, the Sports University is established to facilitate Nigeria's rise to enviable position as a leading sports nation. It is designed to produce alumni each of whom shall be an accomplished sportsman or woman.

It is with the clear vision above and given additional considerations to the need to expand access to University education in Nigeria and to enhance the entrepreneurial capacity of academic programs taught in Nigerian Universities, Prince Ned Munir Nwoko approached the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence the processes of licensing the University.

Having made the commitment to establish the Sports University of Nigeria, the Proprietor set up a Planning and Implementation Committee (PIC) made up of experts in the field of education and sports to steer the process of obtaining license from NUC for its establishment.
